Treatment Approach

Professor Howard J. Shaffer from Harvard University proposed the Syndrome Model of Addiction, which states that the common underlying causes across different addiction problems includes genetic factors, social and psychological states, etc.

With repeated exposure to an addicting substance or behavior, individuals accumulate repeated positive experiences (e.g. excitement after gambling wins and/or stress relief from drinking). The fulfillment and sustaining neurobiological, psychological and social reactions stimulate the reward system of the brain which in turn increases the risks of developing addiction towards the substance or behavior.

ICAPT has recruited a multidisciplinary team consisting of a psychiatrist, social workers, a clinical psychologist and a psychiatric nurse. Our services include psychological assessment and counseling, physical examination and pharmacological treatment. The team aims at providing a one-stop comprehensive rehabilitation treatment for individuals with multiple addictions.
